Let Us Introduce Ourselves

We are Mercy and Rachel Abel; two sisters who are Tanzanians by birth and were raised in Scotland as first generation immigrants. Everyone’s story is unique and as children of the diaspora, 2020 inspired us to use our voices and dare to be part of the change we want to see in the world, and thus Into a Black Mind was born.

Mercy envisioned Into a Black Mind as a way to create space for perspectives from Black voices. I joined as a writer on the venture and together we will be exploring and sharing our thoughts on a broad array of topics, ranging from social injustice to politics and entertainment. If 2020 has taught us anything, it is that there is a need and value in hearing from Black people and in us sharing our perspectives, especially if we want to change the status quo. In exploring topics that affect our daily lives, we hope to provide a little more insight and add a different perspective to the Black experience.

We are excited to share our experiences and thoughts of growing up and existing in majority white spaces and how that existence has shaped our world view. We hope that you will join us on this journey of learning and growth. And we would love to hear your thoughts on our takes on the world as we know it, and the change we desire to see for future generations.
